For tunnel portal protection, heavy-duty hexagonal mesh (5.0mm wire, 100x120mm apertures) combines galvanizing with PVC coating (0.8mm thickness). Panels (3m x6m) are reinforced with horizontal cables (10mm diameter) and joined via spiral binders (3.5mm), forming continuous barriers along unstable cuttings. The dual-coating system resists chemical corrosion from road de-icing agents, compliant with EN 10244-2 for structural integrity under dynamic rockfall loads.

Solution: A gravity retaining wall structure using Gabions and mattresses was proposed and approved due to its economical benefits and structural integrity. Gabions are effective retaining structures that maximize use of in situ filling materials. Their construction method is simple and can be done even during rainy season. Mattresses were chosen for their flexibility and ease of construction, primarily to prevent erosion and improve stability.
